This is ordinary GS scheduled pay. Special-rate, LEO, firefighter, wage-grade and retained-pay schedules can be higher or follow different rules.

Read the number correctly
OPM’s scheduled annual and hourly values answer different payroll questions. The calculator preserves those official values and labels every derived view.
The authoritative table value for the selected OPM schedule, including the statutory cap or nationwide 001M floor when applicable.
The official hourly rate drives the 40-hour and 80-hour figures. The monthly amount is annual ÷ 12 for budgeting—not a payroll frequency.
Taxes, retirement, TSP, health and life insurance, and other deductions are absent. Gross salary should not be used as spendable income.
Methodology
A repeatable importer fetches official tables, validates their shape, verifies hourly rounding, and saves a reviewed local snapshot. The public calculator never waits on OPM.
The primary annual and hourly values come from the selected OPM XML cell. This preserves OPM rounding and statutory-cap treatment.
For covered U.S. GS-1 through GS-4 selections, the calculator compares the locality cell with OPM special-rate table 001M and uses the higher annual rate.
Weekly and 80-hour figures use the official hourly rate. Monthly and 26/27-pay-date totals remain clearly labeled budgeting illustrations.
Prior-year and locality comparisons hold grade and step constant, so the reported difference is not contaminated by a promotion or within-grade increase.
Locality pay generally follows the official worksite or duty station on the employee record. Remote and telework arrangements can make a home address an unreliable shortcut.
Check OPM locality definitionsIncluded
Ordinary GS base/locality rates, the nationwide 001M floor, statutory-cap flags, and same-cell comparisons.
Separate OPM schedules
LEO, wildland firefighter, Federal Wage System, Title 38 and position-specific special rates.
Separate calculations
Take-home pay, promotion/two-step rules, overtime entitlement, premiums, retained pay and agency adjudication.
Use the locality area tied to your official worksite or duty station, which is generally recorded on your SF-50. Do not choose only from your home address if your official worksite is elsewhere. OPM's locality-area definitions can help, and your agency HR office is authoritative for your record.
Yes. OPM says nationwide table 001M replaces a lower corresponding locality rate for covered GS-1 through GS-4 employees at U.S. worksites. The calculator applies that higher rate automatically and labels it. Other special-rate tables require position-specific eligibility and are not inferred here.
OPM computes hourly basic pay by dividing the annual rate by 2,087 and rounding to the nearest cent. Multiplying that rounded hourly rate by 80 and by 26 or 27 pay dates can differ from the scheduled annual table value. The calculator keeps both figures visible rather than forcing them to match.
No. Results are gross scheduled pay before federal, state and local taxes; FERS or CSRS deductions; TSP contributions; FEHB and FEGLI premiums; and other payroll deductions. Those inputs constitute a separate net-pay calculation.
No, except for the broadly applicable 001M floor. OPM publishes separate LEO and wildland-firefighter schedules, and hundreds of special-rate tables can depend on agency, occupation, grade, location and table notes. Use the appropriate OPM schedule or agency HR when one applies.
Only if your locality, grade and step stayed the same. A promotion, within-grade increase, retained rate, special-rate change or duty-station move changes the comparison. The tool deliberately compares the identical table code, grade and step.
